Your daily life is your temple and your religion.
Whenever you enter into it take with you your all.
Take the plough and forge and mallet and lute,
The things you have fashioned in necessity or for delight.
For in revery you cannot rise above your achievements nor fall down than your failures.
And take with you all men:
For in adoration you cannot fly higher than their hopes nor humble yourself lower than their despair.
And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles.
Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children.
And look into space: you shall see Him walking in the cloud , outstretching His arms in the lightening and descending in the rain.
You shall see Him smiling in flowers, then rising and waving His hands in trees.

그대들 나날의 삶이 곧 사원이자 종교랍니다.
그곳에 들어갈 때마다 그대의 모든 것을 함께 가지고 가세요.
필요해서든, 기쁨을 위해서든
그대가 손수 만든 쟁기와 풀무 망치와 피리마저 다 챙겨가세요.
몽상을 아무리 해도
그대는 자신의 업적보다 더 올라갈 수 없고
실패보다 더 떨어질 수 없습니다.
그러니 모든 사람들을 다 데려가세요.
찬송을 아무리 해도
그대는 그들의 희망보다 더 높이 날 수 없거니와
그들의 절망보다 자신을 더 낮출 수 없기 때문입니다.
신을 알고자 한다면,
수수께끼를 푸는 사람처럼 되지 마세요.
차라리 그대의 주위를 둘러보세요.
그분이 아이들과 함께 놀고 계신 모습이 보일 것입니다.
허공을 들여다보세요.
신이 구름 속을 거닐며 번개 속에 손을 뻗고
비 되어 내리시는 모습이 보일 겁니다.
그가 꽃 속에서 미소 짓고
일어나 나무속에서 손을 흔드는 모습이 보일 겁니다.
