2014 소치 동계올림픽에서 구겐하임 협회 Kwame Dawes라는 시인이 각 날짜마다 시를 썼다. 폐회식날에는 안타깝게 은메달을 수상한 김연아에 대한 시를 썼는데 내용이 아름답다. Closing Ceremony, Kim Yuna Unceremonious Silver(격식없는 은메달)이란 제목의 올림픽 시다.

Closing ceremony, Kim Yuna unceremonious silver

 

For Kim Yuna

 

And when she said softly,
that she was happy now
that it was over, this
when she had lost the gold,
and the bedlam around
her told her she was cheated,
I believed her, believed
her relief, her sense that
the weight of it all
was now gone, that the queen
unburdened of the stone
around her to tutor
her body through pain
and to carry the flame
of envy, anger, awe and fear
inside her, stoking it
for years and years
as a flame ― that this was
over now, and all she felt
was relief, gladness, and peace ―
when she said, I am happy,
it is over, I believed her.
And she, skateless,
mortal, grounded, she walked,
stuttering and ordinary,
away from the arena.

격식없는 은메달

 

연아에게 바치는 시

 

부드러운 목소리로.
지금 나는 행복해요
이제 다 끝났으니
하고 말했을 때
금메달 놓친 바로 그 날
모두들 억울하게 당한 거라며
술렁거리는 바로 그 순간에
그렇게 말한 그녀를
나는 믿었습니다.
그 안도감을 믿었습니다.
모든 부담을 훌훌 벗어버렸다는
그 느낌을 믿었습니다.
그토록 치열하게 고통을 이겨내며
몸을 단련시켜야 했던 부담감
여러 해 동안 참으로 여러 해 동안
내면을 따라다니는 부러움, 분노,
경외심, 두려움의 불길과 맞서
마침내 그것을 열정의 불꽃으로
지펴야 했던 부담을
여왕이 이제 벗어버렸다는 느낌을,
그래서 이제는 모든 것이 끝나
느끼는 것은 오직 위안 기쁨 평화라고 했을 때
나는 그 말을 믿었습니다.
마침내 여왕은 스케이트를 벗더니
인간으로 돌아와 땅을 딛고 걸었습니다.
더듬듯 덤덤하니
그렇게 경기장을 떠났습니다.
